Samurai wasp hatching from a stinkbug egg

#1 Post by Johann » Sun Dec 09, 2018 7:13 am

Hi Guys, haven't posted for a while, hopefully will get more time now that the year is winding down... :D

Here is a short video of a Sumarai wasp hatching from a stink bug egg. The adult wasp is about 1mm in size.

Great video and catch!

I take it you used the Leica MZ6?
Did you get a camera attachment for it or are you videoing through an eyepiece?

Fantastic video, Johann ... Thanks for sharing it

The wasp's neat shearing action on the edge of the escape hole is a joy to watch.

Nothing special - still my trusty table tennis ball and a very bright external light.

I have a very bright spot light that i focus on the table tennis ball using a big magnifying lens.

Very nice. I had the opportunity to film a similar phenomena but missed it! I still have the egg cases and hoped to post some photos as well.
