Hi Jim,
This is a good photo, but not actually a mosquito larva. Those have a broad thorax and its only projections are setae; instead the prolegs on the front and end of the body mark this as a midge larva. The two groups are somewhat related, but adult midges don't bite.

Beautiful. Excellent panorama image! I tried to do one for "my" mosquito (also using my 4x objective), but the result was very poor. (Although I used fixed manual exposure on the camera so that the exposure does not change automatically from frame to frame, I still got different density backgrounds: yours looks just perfect with no hint to indicate that this was stitched from multiple frames.)

Same - 4X objective. For good photos I use my Canon 60D, eyepiece projection, and remote shooting. This one, 10X eyepiece, 1/15 sec exposure, and ISO 200. Merged in PS. I also have taken panoramas that I wound up deleting :-(
