Here is a direct quote from Oliver Kim: "There is a limit to 5 pictures per post, each picture can not be larger than 512KB and can not be larger than 1024x1024. "

Charles,
Paint is probably the worst program to use for picture manipulation... You CAN make an identical copy with paint.. Just use the "save as" feature, saving the pic in the same folder, and renaming it.. Also you need to save it as a .jpg instead of a .bmp....

I used Irfanview for many years to resize pictures, crop etc....

It is freeware.

Hi Dennis,

That is exactly the program I use... I have for years.. I find it very easy to use... Some people have an aversion to installing and learning a new program for some reason...

it's akward: Now this one is fun!!

Quite a few years ago a kind forum:" Microscope" member, Michael/ the Old Gromit ( Michael won the Nikon Small World contest one year with his image of estuary diatoms)...Michael sent me diatom slides and raw collected diatoms, and processed diatoms from his studies of UK, River Thames :Three tree Island nature preserve , estuarine saltmarshes study area Michael collected from in all seasons for years. I traded Vrax mountant to Michael/TOG for some excellent mounted and black laquer ringed diatom slides.

Afew years ago (?last year?) I stumbled on a terrific microscopy article on Microscopy of foraminiferans by Walter Franchini.

So I contacted Walter...we swapped materials...latter Walter sent me ( from Milan) mounted and black laquer ringed diatom slides which Walter made useing the Thames estuary diatoms I sent to Walter!

When zzffnn's 60X semi-plan Labomed objective reached my home ( from Texas) this past Friday...I tested this objective on my Labophot...useing Walters slide! It's out of focus..that is my bad.

charlie g wrote:My use of fuzzy images is do my uncertainty of how to go to my images: 1) copy the image...than insure I am resizing that copy...and not altering the original image. I'm not sure I have it down on how to : make a copy from the given image file...then alter only that copy...then send as upload only the altered image-file (resized image).

I resize the images by: 'Open with Paint'...it's akward! all the best, BillT
Hi charlie g,
It's a start, I save a copy of images that I resize for the web with the letters 'ws' stuck on the front of the original file's name - simple and easy to find the web-sized images later with a search using explorer...
Set the new size to a maximum of 1000 pixels in it's longest dimension (wide or high) and make sure the file-size is below 512K - you can alter a jpg's 'quality' setting to leave the dimensions the same but bring down the file-size. Just make sure these limits are met and you're off and running.
There are quite a few free programs that will do this for you, Paint is particularly tricky to use - you've done well so far. :)
Have a practice, you'll soon get the hang of it - the fuzzy pictures doesn't matter, you're only practicing and the dogs are nice too!
Good luck.

Thank you John B ( I hope you reside near enough to visit the fabulous UK Fresh Water Biology facility and open spaces?)...it is kind of Bill T, Dennis and you to remind me to keep track of both the original file...and the copy resized for forum shareing. all the best, charlie guevara BTW this image is a cautionary tale: 'observe your live collected specimens promptly...things change in a collected sample! charlie guevara/finger lakes,US sample collected last Sunday from St.Lawrence River on NY shore.
