Option to open link in new window?

#1 Post by sreynolds » Sat Nov 05, 2022 12:07 am

It appears that the default and only option for opening a link inserted into a post is to open that link in the same/current window. This means that the user must use the 'back arrow' on their browser to return to the forum post. It would be useful to have an option to open a link in a different window, which would leave the forum post in its own window, and the user then could just close the window opened by the link and return to the post. This https://forum.squarespace.com/topic/166 ... ew-window/ is one example of how another forum does it. For example, if I make a photoalbum of images I want to reference in a post, I use a link that the user must back out of to return to the post, and it is a little cumbersome. Thanks.

I would guess any browser should have this as an option, either with right click on desktop or longtapping on mobile.

Here is a screen-grab to show the pop-up which appears if I long-press your hyperlink, on my iPad

Seems to offer every reasonable option, “straight out of the box”

A right click and 'open in new window' works fine for me using Microsoft Edge :)

OK, got it, I was just double-left-clicking. Thanks.
