Image from Google Photos?

#1 Post by lperepol » Sun Dec 23, 2018 5:31 pm

Is there an image size limitation? Images display on google photos but when I post the link to the image on the form only the default thumbnail is displayed on the form.
For exmaple:

Image

this is the link:
https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipO ... NBS2VWakV3
OR
https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipO ... NBS2VWakV3

Inspecting the HTML source and it looks ok:
<img src="https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipP ... 5wjcTXTAhL" class="postimage" alt="Image">

Image

Is Google interferring?
I would like to avoid uploading to form to conserve space.

Ah I think the form wants the images to be displayed inline. The HTML img tag should have width and height attributes in that case?

Looks like the form is imposing a size limitation either file size or image dimensions.

The forum likes smaller image files. Try using an image resizing program to make the final image file size smaller, on the order of 100kB.

(For Linux users, I recommend Simple Image Reducer)

That is what the HTML attributes are for to limit display sizes of incoming pictures. So users do not have to fiddle with the images themselves. The form should be able to fix this. They are just HTML links. The form is not storing the images. It is somewhat a form of unnecessary user harassment impose by the software. Maybe there is a bandwidth concern. That would be the only reason I can think of.

Image and it's folder must be 'link shared' (in G-Photos) - then view image, in G-Photos of course, right-click and select copy image address (to clipboard). Then paste this address between the Img markers this forum editor puts in when you select the Img button during post edits.

Posting the links will do. Facebook messes (scales, crops and compresses) with uploaded images. Google photos seems to handle large file sizes and image dimensions well. I'll start using Google more for lossless images.

To test - try to view the post and images with an 'incognito' window in the browser - you may not then be able to see them if they are not shared , as the browser will not have your identity (you will be just another viewer not the 'owner' of the image/s)...

This image works fine in any browser but it has a very large file size and large dimensions:

Even IE (internet Exploder) displays it.

The forum is not doing anything strange here; even if I make an HTML page with img tags directly, nothing shows up. The problem is that the locations you are using aren't actually images, but webpages from google photos that display the images. So for instance that last link goes here, but the image itself is here – at least for the moment. I can't say if that is actually a persistent location or not. But if I put that in an img here, it shows up for the time being:

Sweet!! Thanks for the tip actinophrys!!!
So it's a Google thing. Hm, I thought I tried that? I right clicked on the image and selected copy image address.
One has to also set the privacy settings on Google Photos for sharing.

Yes, just create an 'album' as a shared album and put your images into that. View them there and as you know use the image address copy... Works very well.

There is a size limit, a limit on both size, size and resolution, I have tried shrinking the size but still can't upload because the resolution is too high. Is there any solution to this problem and how to upload a zip file.
Size limit is just 1000 pixels either-way although I find about 700 to be just right myself. This is if you upload to the forum's storage of course. Usually an image resizing function on whatever software you use has options like 'by percent' or enables the horizontal or vertical pixel number to be selected - just pick the larger dimension of your image to be 1000 or less when resizing and you're fine.

I think best is to use external hosting sites like flicker, printerest or imgur as required. The actual quality of the image remains the same when you upload the image to external site.
