Need a way to secure Camera to E600 Microscope

#1 Post by micro » Sun Sep 19, 2021 4:15 pm

I have a 0.5x relay lens attached to a camera that goes in the trinocular port of my nikon e600. The camera has too much weight on one side so it tips over. The lower part of the relay lens fits well but it only goes in an inch which isn't enough to hold the weight of the camera. I need some kind of spacer to fill the gap.

Micro - try to find someone near you with either a lathe or a 3D printer to make up a bushing. If you just want to test that the .5x reduction lens and your camera give the image size and quality you want -- might try wrapping the upper part with layer upon layer of tape until it's a snug fit.

If you are lucky, you might find a PVC or similar pipe or joint at a plumbing supply store from which you could cut a piece to use as a bushing.

Another suggestion is a piece of that foam padding they use for trays in tool boxes. You might be able to make a bushing with that and some super glue. I've had success with that, but hey, I generally look for the easy way out. You could also go through the o-ring assortment at the hardware store. Several of them of the right size could make a bushing. I have done that with a camera.

I assume you're using a Y-TF trinoc there. That 0.5x projection lens probably has a diameter of 23.3mm on the lower part, which is compatible with the projection lenses that Nikon usually offer. You need the straight tube as in the image below. Without it, the projection lens won't capture the intermediate image parfocal to the oculars. Plus, 0.5x is an awfully low mag projection lens, probably insufficient to fill the sensor diagonal. Should be around 1.6x for APS-C, and 2-2.5x for full-frame.

Cheers,
John

I am using a micro 4/3 camera. If I got one of those tubes I would need another adapter that attaches to the camera right?

Plenty of suitable adapters on ebay, at modest prices

Edit: __ sorry, I may have mis-read the diagram … I was thinking of C-mount to M 4/3
Too many 'projects'
