The flicker

#1 Post by Greg Howald » Fri Nov 05, 2021 4:51 am

I bought a high speed camera that should run at 38fps. I thought that would solve the problem, but, now I find the lab computer seems too slow. It has a 3.2ghz processor.
Hey gang, what do I need?
Help please.

Hi Greg,

Can you post a video? What is the problem, the light source (banding) or the capture device?

The device is an Amscope MU1000-hs Camera. It is a high speed camera with a frame rate of 38 fps. It works poorly at a slow frame rate, but when I crank it up it is worse than any other camera I have and at high frame rate it won't even capture a still image. Very disappointing after spending $300.00 for it. Displeased is an under statement. I asked Amscope for tech advice, haven't heard received a response yet, and according my experience with their tech support I don't expect much from them. In rather frustrated.

Hi Greg,
the camera ofers these fram rates and resolutions:
Frame Rate: 38fps @872x654, 11fps @1744x1308, 3.3fps @3584x2748

As a comparison: My year 2014 Sony A6000 takes 11 frames at 6000x4000 pixels and it focusses in between.
My year 2015 Nikon 1J5 takes up to 60 fps at 20 megapixels, limited to 20 frames

What is the goal you want to acheive with this camera? Cope with a flickering light source?

This camera is not suited for high resolution video. It only can do 38 fps at low resolution. To make a good high resolution video, you need at least 30 fps at 1920×1080.

Thanks. I will test it at low resolution.
I appreciate your input.
