HDMI monitor output - TV vs. PC monitor

#1 Post by Mike H » Mon Dec 27, 2021 8:39 pm

I'm a microscopy newbie interesting primarily in freshwater microorganisms and currently using a Swift 380T fitted with semi-plan 4/10/20/40 objectives and a C-mount Fydun 0.5x Lens Adapter attached to a Raspberry HQ camera connected to a Raspberry Pi (for capturing stills and video).
At present (and mainly because I've only recently thrown this config together), the Raspberry Pi is feeding an HDMI output to a 21" LED TV, but I'm considering upgrading to a dedicated PC monitor such as a Samsung 28" UE570 UHD Monitor when funds allow as I'm not entirely satisfied with the images produced on the TV.
My question is; has anyone else gone this route or similar and did you find the image improvement using a PC monitor rather than a TV justified the investment please?
Also, open to suggestions/recommendations for alternative PC monitors, but wanted to keep the budget to a sub £200 limit.

There are many options … but I settled on this, direct from Dell :

Just over your proposed budget, but I’m very pleased with it.

It’s certainly worth looking at their range.

Thanks for this.
Having reviewed the specs of the Dell and of the Samsung (link below), as well as considering the potential video output quality of the Raspberry HQ camera, the Samsung is beginning to look rather overspec'd for the job (as well as being less kind to the planet since it consumes almost twice the power of the Dell).
The only remaining question regarding choice between the Samsung and Dell being; how much better would the Samsung represent still images from the HQ camera, given the camera's 4056 x 3040 maximum resolution?

Sorry, Mike … I don’t have the experience to offer any worthwhile comment on that point.

P.S. __ For the convenience of anyone who might like to ponder Mike’s closing question, here are a couple of product information sheets relating to the camera:
