Amscope MD150 and Orion Imager IV ?

#1 Post by cpsTN » Thu Oct 15, 2015 3:58 am

As an Amateur Astronomer, I have the Orion StarShoot Solar System Imager IV. Its a 1.3MP CMOS Imager. It i designed for telescopes and is designed for 1.25" focuser. I am comparing this imager to the MD150, Amscope's own 1.3MP CMOS Imager. Amscope states that you can, not only take videos, but also single frame images. I cannot seem to find a single frame option in the software for the Orion version of this imager. I don't want to buy Amscope's Imager since I effectively already have it if I don't have to, just to get the convenience of not having to take a video and stack the images. Surely, there is a way to do this with what I have. Perhaps a software change?

I use to have a Meade DSI astro imager which (if I remember correctly) was capable of taking single images. Go thru you Orion software manual and/ or contact Orion and see if they have a suggestion.

Your second problem will be connecting a 1.25 tube to your microscope.

If you decide to go for an Amscope camera go for one with better resolution. I upgraded to their 3MP USB camera and almost never use it. I wish I had gone for the 5MP.

Thanks Jim. I have found that if I unscrew the 1.25" adaptor to near the end, but to a point where it's still firming attached, it will fit over the microscope EP, but it's hard to keep it on axis. The 5MP is something to consider, so I might just buy one MADE for the 23mm forcuser and keep them seperate. Thanks again.
