Computer vs. Software?

#1 Post by cpsTN » Thu Jan 28, 2016 2:19 am

I have Amscope's MD500 5MP Microscope Webcam, which I have been shown is a rebranding of another brand, which is common among nearly everything in the world these days. I have older software that is working with it, but when I install the software that came with the camera, it installs but says it cannot run because the processor does not support the SSE2 intruction set. I know there are other software out there that will work, as I have one that works as I just said. The computer on which I am trying to run this software is a Compaq Presario C500 running the Home version of Windows 7. Is it that this old computer is not compatible with the new software or is it something I am doing? I ask this, not so you can suggest alternative software, but to ask, if I buy a new laptop (which isn't a problem), will this fix this issue, or is there something else wrong?

Interesting. An online search finds other people asking similar questions about that same error occurring with different software on older machines, seems to be an issue with the CPU. What I found suggests that most machines built after 2003 or so include this compatibility and so should work fine.
Out of curiosity, what specifically is the name of the software package? I have used "Toup View", "ISS Capture", and "Amscope" on my Windows 7 machine at work with no problems. I am not suggesting any of these as alternates, you just didn't say which you were using.

Apparently it IS Toupview. The start screen gives me the option to view the Toupview help screen. When the error screen pops up, it says Amscope 3.7. The help screen just tells me how to use the software. I'll be getting a new computer before the end of February. I just wanted to be sure the problem is OCS (old computer syndrome). lol

Have you tried downloading the latest toupview software or getting help from their site?

This says it is compatible with most Windows versions including Windows 7 32/64bit:

It's not a Windows compatibility issue, its a hardware problem. Apparently there is something about the SSE2 instruction set that the old CPU can't deal with.
I would ask Amscope about this, see what they say.

But I'm thinking...if they are saying it can go on XP and Vista (which are normally on older hardware), then it should run on his current system. But, like you said, Amscope should know, talk with them about the issue.

And sometimes installing the newest software may fix the problem.

THANKS TO EVERYONE!!!!

As advised, I called Amscope and they directed me to downloading the software. The newest version was downloaded and is working fine. I can even take shapshots and save them instantly and vary the MP of the image and tons of other stuff. It's amazing what the software can do! Everything is working fine. All I need now is a focal reducer, at that's what theyre called in the Astronomy world anyway. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
