DSLR AC Adapters affect image quality?

#1 Post by micro » Thu May 28, 2020 4:04 am

DSLR AC adapters usually have issues with making a buzzing sound apparently. Anyone know if this issue affects the cameras image quality while taking microscope pictures and videos?

For example this ac adapter:

What sort of buzzing do you have in mind? The only I have read about, first reported by Panasonic DMC-GH2 filmmakers, was the recorded sound picking up a buzz from a retrofitted AC adapter. I do not recall any trouble with images, nor have I seen any in my limited (mirrorless) experience.

Most products I see on amazon have reviews that say there is a humming/buzzing sound. I don't know if its something with the signal or vibration.

If it is a hum or buzz getting into recorded audio – which is what the reviewers I read, write about – that could be electrical noise from a switching regulator or hum from (we hope are only) small currents leaking through from the AC power.

If the adapter is buzzing or humming, that could be a poorly made transformer and I would find another model adapter.

What model camera are you considering?

I have a lumix g85 and want an ac adapter so I can record longer without having to change the battery

I thought the G85 was mirrorless.

I have powered a GH2 and a G6 off 230V AC. I believe both use the same Panasonic DMW-DCC8 DC-coupler (dummy battery) as your G85. If you have any questions, just ask.
