Looking Forward To Starting New Hobby.
Looking Forward To Starting New Hobby.
Hello all.
I am Chris and I am from Norfolk in the east of the UK.
I have at last decided to buy my first 'real' microscope. I looked on Amazon to see what I could afford and have chosen a Swift SW380B. The 380T is a bit above my budget but if I get a camera I will try to get a light weight one so I can use one of the eye piece sockets instead. I also plan to buy a box of 100 prepared slides to get started with before I try making my own
I have watched lots of Oliver's YouTube videos and have learnt a lot from him and look forward to starting in the hobby. I will be ordering my microscope and slides on Friday so should receive them early next week.

Cheers (from the other side of the pond), Chris. That 380B should serve you well. Have fun!

Welcome Chris,
Be sure to get a box of concave slides and cover slips
to view the endless theater of hay infusion Protozoa.
Best Wishes from Michigan

Welcome.
IMHO, whoever starts doing microscopy, and given the availability and (relative) low price of cameras (50-100$ for a basic 5MP eyepiece camera), the first microscope should preferably be trinocular. One realizes it at the moment one tries to capture an image or video. It is definitely less convenient and less productive to fit a camera on one of two eyepieces. The price of buying the binocular microscope and a trinocular head separately is higher than the price of a complete trino microscope.

I just started the hobbie too, I am thankful for the stimulus packages they have been giving out. That's basically how I afforded mineChris H wrote: ↑Wed Mar 24, 2021 8:08 pmHello all.

The Swift 380 and Amscope 490 are good quality popular scopes. Enjoy. Ask questions as you go. Folks on the forum are very helpful.

I received my Swift 380b today along with an Amscope set of 100 prepared slides.
I have looked at a few of the slides and so far I am very impressed with the quality.
I plan to replace the 100x oil objective with a 60x objective next pay day as I feel this would be more useful as I do not plan to start messing around with oil. I will also be getting some blank slides and cover slips to have a go at making my own slides.
