Have 3d printer, will print.
Hey all.
I have a 3d printer and I've run out of things to make. If anyone needs something done up, I'm game to give it a go.

An AR-15 lower?
If I can't see it with my microscope, it ain't worth looking at.
Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
Ha. I've already been visited by the department of homeland security and ATF.
I bought some replacement printer parts and apparently that company was selling illegal receiver mods.
So no.

Hi,
if you are a good designer you might develop a couple of microscopy accessories and offer them as a small series product. Around slide making there is often need for holders for cover slips and slides, for plancton well slides are useful, for inverted microscopes with cover slip bottom. If you just offer common printing services you are up against a lot of competition.
You should mention where you are as shipping and taxes would make it much less interesting to order from far away.

Hi there,
What location of the world are you in?
New on here, not sure if that info is already available. But I'm after a set of the darkfield patch stops for an SW380T
I'm in UK, England.
Many thanks,
and good luck and hope you get something real interesting to make!

Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
I'm in the US.
I've never mailed anything outside of the country before, but it can't be that hard.
Something like this?

@Bob - I can function in CAD, I wouldn't say that I'm skilled. Oh, and I don't even know what those things are. Very new to microscopy.

Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
I also would really like to get a darkfield patch stop set made. A set made in black and another set made in blue.
for my Amscope t490b. I believe the filter sizes are 32mm.
I have been very reluctant to buy the ones on ebay as I live in Canada so all the hidden fees and such quickly grow to unreasonable prices.
How much money are you looking for and can you ship to Canada?

Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
I actually have blue filament on hand.
What area of Canada? I'll get an estimate from my post office.
Edit: Just went to post office, apparently I have to print a couple so they can see what I'm talking about.

Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
I am in Ontario, not too far from Ottawa.
Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
When I go back to the post office tomorrow, I'll get an estimate to there.
Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
Okay sounds good. I appreciate it.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
Okay, so I printed a couple and went back to the post office. This is all new to me, but anything that's not paper has to go through customs, so that's a thing.
Shipping to the UK: $16.40
Shipping to Canada $14.50
That's a bit ridiculous. I'll happily make them, but ouch, nothing cheaper available in country?
Does anyone here know of a more affordable but still legal way to mail to these countries? There's got to be a better way.

$15 bucks actually isn't so bad (by Canadian standards). On ebay if I wanted to purchase a set of four laser printed darkfield patch stops. It would cost me at least $50. For four plastic rings.
So $15 isn't so bad.
I don't know if there is anyway around it. Our government has us Canadians helpless when it comes to money.
I remember I sent a jar of Miracle Whip to a friend in Australia (Australia has banned miracle whip for some bizarre reasons) and it cost me nearly $50 to ship a jar of mayonnaise to Australia. That was the most expensive jar of Miracle Whip I ever purchased, I tell ya.

This would be useful: https://github.com/beniroquai/Tensorflo ... master/STL
Its a set of parts to build an analyser (rotating polarizer).
The compensator adapter would be particularly helpful for my needs: https://github.com/beniroquai/Tensorflo ... dapter.stl

Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
$50 to send a jar of mayo literally to the opposite end of the earth is still pretty good

Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
Just wanted to say thank you for the filter patch stops. They work perfectly. They fit perfectly and they work so much better than the flimsy diy ones I was using. I am going to be using these daily.
Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
I'm thrilled that they worked so well!
Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
I actually had to design a simple adapter to use the filters withy my scope. It was easier to do one part rather than resize 20 something filters.
Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
Oh man, this is awesome! Did/do you have extra filters? I would 100% love some. Willing to pay even
I have a Swift 350T, and it came with this blue filter, which I measured see pic below. I assume, my scope can take filters then.

Hey krame great side hobby for microscopy-I don’t know how hard this would be to make but what about making a variable leaf dark field stop-photo below-they could come in different sizes for different filter holders 30mm-32mm etc-a continuously variable dark field stop-I guess it’s like an inverse iris-I bet a quite a few microscope peeps would love to part with some money to get one!

Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
I have a bit of macular degeneration in one eye. It makes observation kinda difficult. I think about a set of enlarging eyepiece adaptors that fit into the 23mm eyepiece socket and allow you to insert 30mm Eyepieces. Sure it changes the magnification a bit. I can easily make such a thing for my monocular scope but when they are needed for the binocular scope they need to match. That isn't easy with tubing, tape and glue. It could be something to try.

Now that's pretty darn interesting. I'll look into it.
That would be a piece of cake. PM me if you want me to make a set.Greg Howald wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 11:53 am23mm eyepiece socket and allow you to insert 30mm Eyepieces
Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
krame I got the image off the Olympus website explaining dark field-variable dark stops have come up a few times in the group-and I’ve got another interesting idea to tease your brain!-what if you made a combo of variable dark field stop in the middle and on the other side an iris that just closes about 50%-this could act like a poor mans Leitz heine condenser-allowing one to make a light annulus to match any phase ring of any phase objective-probably allows for Circular Oblique Lighting as well....Now I’m positive that would be a big seller! You might be able to patent it-I’ve got a heine condenser but I’d buy this contraption as well! Would need two levers of course-do you have cad software where you can test the movement of the mechanics of a design? Like a simulation mode? That could help problem solve a lot before even printing a single prototype!

Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
You certainly have my attention now!
Re: Have 3d printer, will print.
I would be happy to buy such a variable reversed aperture as well.
I had Leitz Heine before. It has internal mirror walls that reflect light and corrects distortions. A simple hollow light ring would only block light and won't work as well as Heine, but it should work, assuming light source is poweful enough.
Such a design may sell well. However, as a previous patent (law) agent, I can tell you this is not patentable (since it is a simple extension of the original idea and it has been published way before).
You may try to get a design patent, but since there is not much commercial value, it is probably not worth doing.

Step one: design
I have a newborn, so my play time has decreased a bit. I love this idea and will certainly give it a shot
