My Christmas Gifts- Ortholux I (1962) and AO Spencer (1948)
My wife surprised me with an Ortholux I circa 1962 and a AO Spencer circa 1948.
Is the camera adapter adaptable to anything more recent? It has a screw off ring which is probably some Leitz bayonet.
Has anyone has experience with using the adapter. It is marked 1/3x.
Happy Holidays to Everyone,
Gerard

wooow congratulations for the gifts and also for the wonderful wife! I got instead a pijama! Was hoping for an optical comparator...
Camera mount, no true experience here, maybe the screw is 39mm?
1/3 x sounds ideal to go from an old narrow field of like 15mm to to a full frame camera

Nice score for both. I'd love to have such a Leitz. Is the AO a 15 or 35? I have a 35 monocular and enjoy it.

I think it’s a 15. It came with a case - 5x and 10x eyepieces

Wow! What a fabulous gift!
They are beautiful and I suspect a real joy in use, nice to see how you get on with these as you explore their capabilities.
Congratulations.

Looking more closely at my wonderful gifts I notice my AO 15 differs from the catalog listing. It has 6x and 10x eyepieces, not 5x. Also it has 4x 10x and 43x on the nosepiece, with a 97x in a protective case.
What is missing is the condenser.
So what condensers are compatible with the 15?
Will anything more recent work?
As to the Ortholux I, it has 4 objectives in a 5 piece nosepiece. One is a 40x apo with a Plezy adapter
Curious.

Condenser problem solved. It had gotten dislodged from the scope and was laying in the popcorn noodles.
As to the camera adapter. the inside diameter is 39 mm and the outside thread is 46mm

I reallize you found the condenser, but in case someone else has a similar issue, the condenser appears to be the same mount as found on the series 2 + 4, as well as probably a few others.DrPhoxinus wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 7:44 pmLooking more closely at my wonderful gifts I notice my AO 15 differs from the catalog listing. It should be Leica M39. Adapters are available at low cost. Just buy one that fits your full-frame camera and you are fine.DrPhoxinus wrote: ↑Sat Dec 25, 2021 8:51 pm
