Research?
While it's lovely being able to ask the members of this forum for identification help, I would like to start doing my own research, and learning along the way.
Are there any good (online?) resources that could be recommended?
Thank you!

Re: Research?
My favorite research tool is Google Images. I’m always surprised by the obscure photomicrographs they can dig up.

Don't just use google images, either. I'm finding google algorithms are increasingly turning up popularized and sanitized sites or images : stuff with the most hits. If you take the time to search images in Gibiru, Startpage, DuckDuckgo, Yandex, Swisscows, OneSearch or Bing as well, it is like having a half dozen books on your shelf instead of just one. Google has been compromised by advertising, where the product is the user.

Ah, thank you for this! Yes, some very "left field" results from Google images searchesapochronaut wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 11:47 amDon't just use google images, either. I've heard of DuckDuckGo and Bing, but not the others so will definitely give them a try.
Thank you again!

Re: Research?
Basically using Bing - uploading an image and getting many similar ones for my research. If you do not have time and patience to do this, then you can only seek help from professionals for whom such activities are very easy. For example, I have a verified source that saves me every time. I am about https://essays.studymoose.com/pay-for-research-paper which is a reliable service where I come to experts and ask to pay for research papers. It is accessible and effective for my learning process. I have little time for biology and research university because of my part-time job. That's why I started looking for help from those who have an academic degree. I am sure of every employee on the said site. If you need some additional and more concrete contacts, then send me a message so I can provide you with everything you need.

Re: Research?
Keep in mind that a quite a few of the organisms you're likely to encounter through search engines are misidentified. Consult the professional literature, whenever possible.

Some good (and free) ID ebooks: https://www.wfoissner.at/publications.htm
Re: Research?
Lets see..
Before you get started, here's really nice video by Peter Evennett explaining how your microscope really works. Watch it. Seems a bit droll in the beginning, but I guarantee you'll learn something:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60_jgZtyR6U
Now on to the research...
From the Foissner list above is a nice course in protozology: http://www.wfoissner.at/data_prot/Roett ... _1-259.pdf
http://www.penard.de./Introduction/index.html
From the Center for Freshwater Biology: http://cfb.unh.edu/cfbkey/html/index.html
For amoeboid organisms: https://arcella.nl/
Sally Warring's Pondlife: http://pondlifepondlife.com/
The Protist Information Server: http://protist.i.hosei.ac.jp/
Rotifers of Germany an Neighboring Countries (don't worry, most are ubiquitous): https://www.plingfactory.de/Science/Atl ... ifera.html
Diatoms of North America: https://diatoms.org//
There are a whole lot more that reasonably worded searches on Google (or whatever) can find for you, but I'm betting this little list will keep you occupied for some time!

Thanks for those links, Mr. Jones....
You're right; they WILL keep me occupied for quite a while!

Yes, definity use DuckDuckGo instead of Bing and Google to avoid their profile of you being used including that if you're using Google DNS use instead for example Cloudflare DNS (once again to avoid profiling).FatBassPlayer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 4:27 pmI've heard of DuckDuckGo and Bing, but not the others so will definitely give them a try.
