Plankton sample
Plankton sample
A nice plankton sample my son took from the sea here. Don't know the exact species, except for the Creseis clava. If you know please tell us... September/October is a good time for catching plankton
Shot on a Olympus BH-2 BHS, with Wild Fluotar 3x and Olympus DPlan 10x objectives, apl, achr. condenser 1.4 with improvised darkfield, NFK 2.5x and Sony a6000.
The good thing about the APS-C crop sensor is that one can use a 3x objective on a 1.4 condenser without vignetting
I'm not very talented with inventing video titles, maybe it should have a WOW! at the beginning. But no matter.

Fantastic images.
Great work... thanks for sharing.

Re: Plankton sample
Very nice images and video. Did you have to hunt for them on the slide(s)? Interested how abundant they are in open seawater.

Re: Plankton sample
Fascinating, great video.
Re: Plankton sample
Thanks everyone, we're quite happy.
He catches the individual zooplankton in a jar one by one. Has a good eye for spotting them, knows what they are before putting them on the microscope. I can't say I'm able to follow completely.

Wow! I really enjoyed this one. Congratulations, fantastic dark field images and very interesting specimens!

Man, that is actually possible? I can imagine the steps and patience needed, but it is a lot of work!He catches the individual zooplankton in a jar one by one. Has a good eye for spotting them, knows what they are before putting them on the microscope. I can't say I'm able to follow completely.
I just stick pipette in somewhere likely, use one drop on the slide & hope, and then spend 20 mins trying to find something.

Re: Plankton sample
Brilliant!
May I ask what sort of slides/ cover slips you use to allow the specimens to move around so freely? Also, could you give more details on your improvised darkfield? As much information as possible would be great. I am trying to find out how to achieve the best darkfield I can.

Beautiful imagery. Thanks for sharing this.

Thanks for your reply. Did you use well slides or normal slides?imkap wrote: ↑Wed Oct 05, 2022 6:49 am

Great that you didn't get any detritus behind the specimens that would have reduced your contrast. I"m having a terrible time trying to clean the slides well enough for DF imaging
Re: Plankton sample
Wow this is amazingly clear and vivid footage. Very nice! I'm not familiar with the jargon surrounding the technical aspects of capturing this footage but am nonetheless interested. Not shooting with a vignette is very nice. I have to bump my camera into crop frame mode to achieve this which is unfortunate. Definitely a win for APS-C!
Re: Plankton sample
I used a normal slide, cleaned with soap and water and after with my t-shirt and breath
I did some video editing on the computer to make the background darker. Darkfield is pretty unforgiving, slides and condenser must be clean...
Yes, the main downside of it became an upside.
It is great that with lower mag objectives you have a deeper depth of field, so for lower magnification stuff, which doesn't fill the objective image circle aps-c actually might be better
Although you can use crop mode on a FF, but then it is not a FF anymore

Re: Plankton sample
I can't believe I didn't know my Nikon FF had crop modes. For video it has a 1.5 crop option (it has 1.2 and 1.5 for photo), and still fills 1920x1080. I'm seeing things I've never been able to see before. So cool.
Re: Plankton sample
I actually do like APS-C quite a lot. The only real downside in my experience is typically their noise patterns are more present and in my opinion more displeasing but keeping a low iso is a workaround for that (and a really good excuse to learn lighting, a skill that will make any potato produce good images) The 1/3 stop of light lost over full frame was also a drawback however the smaller field I think is much to the advantage of the aps-c camera. Wide angle photography is still very achievable on an aps-c system but they outrun FF in long lens photography. An incredibly versatile sensor size. And as someone coming from the professional video space, a deeper depth of field is a bonus, I hardly shoot anything stopped below f4. Don't even get me started on being on set trying to pull focus on a subject when the director of photography says they want to shoot at f1.8.....imkap wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 5:34 am

Amazing work! I enjoy your article. This website has been really helpful to me, so I created an account here. When I was looking for essay samples online, I actually searched for the website https://www.grabmyessay.com/samples, and while doing so, I came across your page.
