Yes Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays to all. It would be nice one day to meet everyone in person. We should make that a goal!

Re: Merry and healthy microscopy season holiday cheer!
Actually, Jim T, the first image depicts my disappointment with a : Nikon Plan 2X objective with dark field contrast...the algae, desmid protist is a planktonic form of: Staurastrum desmids...collected from my (still in the works due cost of this err hobby project) artificial mesocosm pond of area species.
If I adhered to better slide preparation...I would have made a wet mount slide prep with very shallow water colum under the cover slip...perhaps then more of this dark field image capture would be in better focus. But though my 2X plan objective is a must for my observation protocols...the image captures with my shallow skills..leave outside area dismally out of focus.
My good doggie image captures suggest the world I normally have minds eye view of...yes, yes I still miss so much of of what is reality...do you?!! A winter 'mountain dog' with a closed mouth, and with non-melting snow literally on it's nose..with eyes slightly closed..indicators of the ambient very cold air at that time! Snow crystals on the meadow blanket which prismatically refract gem colors also are indicators of very cold ambient air conditions.
The sequence of our garden bird bath is actually ominous...the snow pillowed bird bath then followed after only a week with the thaw which I imaged with the Christmas ornaments...this oscillation of sub-zero F...then temps above 36 F..it's a 'new normal'..quite upsrtting to have insect activities in December! Charlie Guevara
BTW I will sample the now thawed bird-bath nitches.
