Excellent! When applied to microscopes, we will be able to get rid of those pesky objectives and eyepieces!

hasn't there already been one, for about 200 years, based on the camera obscura? .... called the pin hole camera?

Years ago I read an academic article about a grid of sub-micrometer pinholes (I cannot remember the details) which would have eliminated the need for complex and expensive MICROSCOPE objective lenses. The objectives are still alive and expensively kicking...
