Lab glassware
Lab glassware
Michaels, the craft store, has dozens of mad scientist items. Graduated cylinders,
glass syringes, beakers, flasks, etc, and they are glass! Halloween decorations.
Ok, this is the same post I put up a few days ago, and was immediately reported and
greyed out, plus an ugly black dot. With no way to get help I'll just ask here, what
is this Warez thing I am accused of doing? Who reported me? Why does nobody pm me
with what is wrong with this simple post?

Your previous post is still there

There is a tab that allows one to choose why they have reported a posting.
I think the first one and therefore the default position is "illegal software" or words to that effect.
Further down is spamming etc ...

Re: Lab glassware
I'm getting it, slowly. I see everyone has a little red exclamation mark to report posts. But why was I reported, and why is there that little black square badge on the very far left?

Can't see any little black square badge on the very far left. But why was I reported, and why is there that little black square badge on the very far left?
As to why ... perhaps it was a fundamentalist - Halloween is a pagan festival after all. ;)

Re: Lab glassware
R R R R ! It's also my sinaversary. To the left of the topic title is a box with a circle
surrounding a little book, it, I think, is a status indicator of the read status of the post.
My book has a wee black square (badge) on the top left corner of the book. I find about
1 of these every 27 posts. Can you see anything objectionable in my post, Lorez
could not. Surely a moderator will respond. (guilt guilt). On a side note, my poor
lab is still 3 months out.

Re: Lab glassware
Maybe you have to be the original poster to see that black box.
Was going to ask about your Lab ... have you finalized the plans ?
and what did you buy at Michaels?

Re: Lab glassware
I see several topics, in which I posted but not as OP, with black dots (circles) on the perimeter of the circular mark in the leftmost column of the table of posts of Active Topics.
I wonder about the meaning of ALL of those tags or icons that appear in that column, including bells (?) etc, as well as immediately before the title of the post in the third column from left. Trivial information which somehow I missed so far.

Re: Lab glassware
Must be the OP, I'll check that out. Oliver is making me suffer.
The lab had to have some minor changes, epoxy floor instead of lvt planks. What
I didn't foresee was the floor slopping so much that the office chair is like a
roller coaster. Might need speed bumps!
At Michaels I bought 3 sizes of graduated beakers, cylinders, and flasks. A decent
test tube rack with corked test tubes. Stirring rods. They had a flask that was oval
at the bottom, wasn't sure if that would be useful. They said to come back after
Halloween as everything would be even cheaper! Until the lab is done I am using
many of the pieces for mixing bug and weed poisons! My wife is worried that I
might be thinking of a meth lab, cause I really liked Breaking Bad.

Re: Lab glassware
I enjoyed buying at Michaels in the past, creation stuff for kids - a selection of magnetic necklace locks, for example.
Are these glassware items made of temperature-change-resistant glass?

Re: Lab glassware
I tried some plastic petri dishes on my upright and found the results very ordinary. Luckily I had bought some second hand glass ones and was able to employ them, to good effect. I have a few beakers, an old German graduated cylinder, and other assorted glass. I Absolutely love glass.
Re: Lab glassware
Hobbyst, that is a very pertinent question. There is nothing on the items except graduations.
My real glassware is still packed, this stuff was just for mixing room temp pest poisons,
with an eye to the use in the lab, but I would think it very unwise to mix them up, unless
they pass a heating test. Some diatom processes use hot solutions. Perhaps a reader might
suggest a reasonable test.

Yes, better not mix them up.Dale wrote:...There is nothing on the items except graduations. My real glassware is still packed, this stuff was just for mixing room temp pest poisons,

I daresay that the existence of such test is unlikely - it is more like testing matches one by one to check if they can light a fire...Perhaps a reader might suggest a reasonable test.
Re: Lab glassware
FWIW, don't believe I've never seen borosilicate lab glass items without a marking. Who would spend the money for this expensive material and not let the customer know? There's Corning's Pyrex, Kimble's Kimax, and even the import stuff jokingly called Chinex. The Chinese stuff I've seen is actually labelled "Boro."
Could be the craft store stuff is tempered soda glass, which is a tiny bit more heat resistant.
