Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
Hi Dale, looks like there are 2 Lots, one of 9 and one of 4 microscopes?
Are you going to bid? It is a bit of a lottery if you can't look them over first.

I'm in Virginia, so pretty close. Some nice scopes in the large lot. May have to take a drive...
Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
I'm in Seattle, so no deals for me. I do watch this site in case something in
Washington comes available. Charles, let me know if you buy anything, I would
be interested for sure. There are AO Pros around that would also be interested.
So I'll bet you could recoup your investment.
I scoped out everything under microscopes and that was all I found. It changes rapidly.
I sure would bid if I lived within driving distance.
It's like going to a police auction blindfolded!
Dale.

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
Yes, depending on the final price at the end of the auction, but one piece could recoup the cost.
If anyone would want to go in on this bid with me, we could split the scopes. Who ever is closest (I'm about 5 hrs away) would pick them up and all of us could pick...round robin...which scope/s they want and I could ship them to the others. If there are three of us, we would get three scopes each for probably a very nice price.
Anyone want in? And if you do, what is the max bid you would be willing to go. Of course max bid would be split by all who goes in on this and shipping cost would be paid by the ones getting the scopes.
Let me know if anyone is interested.

0836 just read your post and I am interested, but I need a bit of time. Gotta take sick cat to vet. Then I'll
look real close at the scopes. Which group?

The group of nine scopes. There is a wide variety with AO, B&L, Nikon, Zeiss, Unitron and Leitz.

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
I could only get info on the zeiss, dialux, and labophot. They are monsters! I would like to see how far we make it in the bidding, but I fear the price will skyrocket. I asked for profile pictures. IF we get them, shipping would be high, but probably well worth it, however I'll be in Nashville next Spring. How many hours are you from there? I'm thinking positive here, but my gut says dream on.

Hi Dale,IF we get them, shipping would be high...
I find that within the USA shipping rates are very reasonable - a quick check to see what it would cost from NJ/Virginia or thereabouts should put your mind at rest.
This is a very good opportunity to get hold of a microscope.
Good luck!
There is no mention of power supplies - I suppose they are in another LOT?

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
I have scoured the web for data on these scopes, and only found info on #6 7 8, and 9. There are power supplies in
the background of the first photo, but no mention. I will ask a question right away. For what is a power supply needed?
I have 8 by 10's of the Zeiss, Nikon's, and the Dialux, and they seem to have all their attachments in place. I have asked
for profile photos. I would betcha this bid goes over 2 grand. As of last night the minimum had not been reached.
If the bid does not go too high I will stay, even if I have to pawn my meds.
edit: just posted this:1. Are the power supplies in the background included?
2. Could
profile photos be added?
3. Could you add any more
identification on the first 5 scopes? I can find nothing on the
web?

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
Most microscope illumination works on 6v or 12v, usually DC.For what is a power supply needed?
Additionally they allow you to vary the intensity the light for optimal illumination according to the subject one is viewing, the objective one is using and the illumination method: Darkfield / brightfield etc
Are you coordinating with Charles? As of last night the minimum had not been reached.

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
Some of the scopes are very exotic, possibly using fluorescent or fiber optic light. I got Charles to bid! So we are
co-conspirators. You want in? Might be a slugfest over the last 4 scopes.
Dale.

Ah, buggers, seems these are fluoroscopic microscopes. Still valuable, but the imaging is probably useless
to me. But if we get them cheap, they could be stripped down. I am reading the manuals, which lead me to believe
someone is going to bid high for these!

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
Hard to say how the bidding will go. That is part of the fun.
The trick if one can call it that is to know your limit (what the scopes you want are worth to you) and stick to that.
Speaking of which I suppose you will hang on to the AO Spencer and a Bausch & Lomb if you can and sell the rest?
If you do keep one of the fancy ones you might want to put it aside for a bit, while you learn the basics on one of the no frills microscopes.

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
Agreed. I have seen big lots of these go for ten bucks. There are a lot of people watching. Yeah, I think all I'd like would be one Nikon, anything else would be icing on the cake. I cannot find any data on the Spencer or the Bausch & Lomb's. I never ever thought Charles would be able to help me with this.

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
I'm about 10.5 hours from Nashville but I don't think shipping would be a problem. I figure about $35-40 for each well packed scope. All the EpiFluoros also appear to be set up for in base transmitted light also, so you can take the epi portion off and use it for transmitted if you didn't want to use the epi. The AO looks like a mono model 10. The B&L are Dynazooms. The one lever on top give you I think 2X the magnification. The other knob on the one with two is for the phototube and camera.
Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
I do think those are the power supplies in the first picture...Sweet!

RR thanks good reading. Since I have an AO-10 with inf. obj's I am ahead of the game with regard to most of the scopes. Not sure if the labophot or dialux would be a substantial upgrade.

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
From the little I have read I would say the labophot and the dialux are a nice step up.
Then again what would be best for you depends on the use you plan to give it and if you want to upgrade, what is available and affordable.
I seem to remember that your AO 10 was damaged in transit? What is the latest news on that?

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
I'm not sure if I can use the sellers name, hopefully you know of whom I speak, but he is going to extremes to resolve the
issue with the post office. My post office is incredibly bad, mean, nasty, and ignorant of their own rules. grrrrrrr.
I just can't say enough about how much he is doing, but a case of Wild Turkey wouldn't be enough to thank him.
Uh Oh, he may be reading this!! These auction scopes look like real good units, so that's why there are so many
watching. The 2 scopes I would be interested in would have to be pretty good to be a worthwhile upgrade. I was VERY
impressed with the AO-10, which is all I need, unless I could get even one of those others at a steal. I might even spend
my med money on them. I used to wonder why my dad bought so many antique cars, now I think I know!

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
Hi Dale, and all.
Good luck in your effort. The lure of a huge row of microscopes is surely hard to resist, but it appears that you are preparing for a successful session at the auction. I'm not going to bid against you so I will offer my opinions on some to the scopes. The monocular AO10, in the front of the row in the group photo is missing what was once the 110V-15W illuminator. This is the lowest model of that line so probably does not have the best of objectives, achros, but not plans. The next two are B&L Dynazooms, one is a triocular (without a photo tube). The Dynazoom was the top of the line in its time and had very good optics. The zoom feature is a nice attribute that does give a good enlarged view. The focusing mechanism is of brass and stainless steel and has only a couple of minor adjustment concerns. The inverted scope looks like a Bristoline and I would not want one. You have all the info on the others.

Re: Any American Optical fans in NJ ?
Well, that was very disappointing. Tied the final bid but they get it because their bid was first. Never had that happen before. Last week I won a bid by 1 cent. So as they say, you win some and you lose some.
