Pediastrum algae after short incineration

#1 Post by MicroBob » Mon Jun 29, 2020 6:46 pm

Hi together,
I did some experimenting with my diatom cleaning by incineration. This time I used a small gas powered heat gun and directly applied the heat to the cover slip for a short time in short bursts from both sides. This was long and hot enough to char the organic matter, but it didn't burn everything to ashes. This left carbon imprints of some objects thst are quite beautiful. Here a Pediastrum algae in COL.

Interesting technique which captures the shape rather well.

I think however it would be worthwhile comparing a before and an after image to see which was preferable.
Zeiss Standard WL (somewhat fashion challenged) & Wild M8
Olympus E-P2 (Micro Four Thirds Camera)
