Just one thought [aside from the interesting choice of colour] ...
As shown, all the cells appear to be cavities, but I presume you didn’t actually section them !
Would you agree with me, that it looks more realistic when rotated 180° ? MichaelG.

There's definitely a fungusamungus. Closer examination required. Is it capable of movement? That goes a long way toward identification.
