Great idea!
I just stopped using immersion oil because I have to spare all the possible flammable solvents. Just in case I need them for making Molotov cocktails. I live just a few km from Russian border. We are ready in case you did your very last fatal mistake, mr Putin

we need more : 'eye/ear doctors' in Russia...we are seeing horrible things..yet hearing other things. I hope this ends for global better.
Re: Petition to use Lomo microscope grease in Russian tanks.
My cynical suspicion is that just about all grease, whether used on tank treads, sold in jars labelled "Vasoline," or in expensive little tubes for microscopes, comes out of the same large drums...

Not Lomo microscope grease.

Good thing I'm not in charge. If I were they would be slipping and sliding in something other than grease.

Even Lomo grease dos not harden fast enough to stop that war.
I just earned 15 years of hard labor in the Gulag by naming the war a war.

Vaseline has an interesting history, getting a start as a miracle wound ointment and used for more things than one might suppose:apochronaut wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 7:41 pmNot Lomo microscope grease.
Vaseline is actually petroleum jelly. Look it up.
"Robert Chesebrough, a young chemist whose previous work of distilling fuel from the oil of sperm whales had been rendered obsolete by petroleum, went to Titusville, Pennsylvania, US, to see what new materials had commercial potential. Chesebrough took the unrefined black rod wax, as the drillers called it, back to his laboratory to refine it and explore potential uses. He discovered that by distilling the lighter, thinner oil products from the rod wax, he could create a light-colored gel. Chesebrough patented the process of making petroleum jelly by U.S. Patent 127,568 in 1872. The process involved vacuum distillation of the crude material followed by filtration of the still residue through bone char. Chesebrough traveled around New York demonstrating the product to encourage sales by burning his skin with acid or an open flame, then spreading the ointment on his injuries and showing his past injuries healed, he claimed, by his miracle product. He opened his first factory in 1870 in Brooklyn using the name Vaseline."
Aside from its various medicinal uses, some rather dubious, Vasoline was soon also being used to style hair and moustaches:
"In the first part of the twentieth century, petroleum jelly, either pure or as an ingredient, was also popular as a hair pomade. When used in a 50/50 mixture with pure beeswax, it makes an effective moustache wax."
