It makes a difference.
The analyzer is above the specimen and the Polarizer is below the specimen as shown in this photo.

The specimen is a thin section of Marble with the 4x objective in place.
The first photo is the reference taken with crossed polars.

The Analyzer  is rotated 15° with the Polarizer set to 0°.

The Analyzer is reset to 0° and the Polarizer rotated 15°.
